Roe Quinn (Chinese name: Yiluo Whale 鲸一落)

She is a Chinese mixed-media sculptor, poet, writer, and former musician whose practice spans kinetic sculpture, video, installation techniques, and any material that can be transformed into physical presence.

Quinn’s early creative journey was shaped by writing and music, where the boundaries between self and the fictional characters of his 2023 manuscript blurred into lived experience. This period carried the turbulence of mental instability and the weight of unresolved identities.

Since beginning HRT and medical treatment, Quinn’s practice has found new clarity and direction, focusing on transgender identity as a site of transformation, embodiment, and resilience. His sculptures often combine hybrid materials and installation approaches to explore the tension between body, memory, and machine, occasionally experimenting with sound as an extension of these forms.

Today, Quinn seeks to expand the visibility of trans narratives through experimental sculptural practices, while continuing to write poetry and prose. He invites audiences to encounter both fragility and strength in states of becoming.
